Project Evergreen…
Roeder Consulting recently started a program we call “Project Evergreen”. Here’s what we do.
- Turn off the lights when we leave a room for more than 15 minutes. Use natural light whenever possible and reasonable.
- Turn off our computers (and unplug them) at night. Put on sleep/hibernate when we will be away from them for more than 30 minutes during the day.
- Avoid printing documents whenever possible.
- Purchase printer paper with a high percentage of post-consumer recycled content.
- Use black & white, draft mode for all documents printed for internal use.
- Recycle toner and ink cartridges.
- Take home office recyclables because our office facility doesn’t have a recycling program.
- Use mugs instead of Styrofoam cups for hot drinks.
- Reduce corporate travel and invest in teleconferencing and online meeting & learning solutions.
- Consider other forms of transportation before rental cars, when traveling.
10 Ideas For Making Your HOME More "Green"
- Replace your incandescent light bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs. Conserve energy & save money.
- Install programmable thermostats. Plug air leaks. Have your HVAC serviced regularly.
- Install (or have installed) an insulated jacket on your hot water tank. They cost less than $20 and will reduce the cost to keep your water hot.
- Conserve water with Low Flow showerheads and faucet aerators. You don’t need to sacrifice water pressure either.
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The 3 R’s. ('The 3 R's' Video - Jack Johnson - AOL Music)
- Purchase produce and food products that are locally grown or produced, when possible.
- Limit receipt of junk mail to slow deforestation. Check out mailstopper.tonic.com and www.41pounds.org
- Reduce (by using canvas totes) or eliminate use of plastic bags. Americans use 100 billion plastic bags annually (requiring 12 million barrels of oil to produce).
- Check your insulation (or have it professionally inspected).
- Carry a reusable water bottle with you.
